Our Catholic Montessori program is offered to students in a mix of ages three to five.  Montessori is a method of education based on the work of educator Dr. Maria Montessori.  It focuses on self-directed activity, hands-on learning, and collaborative play. Children make creative choices at their own pace in their learning, while the highly trained teacher/guides offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process, all within a carefully planned and consistently moderated classroom environment.

Teachers in a Montessori classroom will encourage students to concentrate on their own individually selected activities or “work”, and gently discourage them from interrupting each other; this allows students to focus on activities until they are properly mastered. The classroom thus becomes a gentle, productive, and safe place where children learn self-discipline, respect for one another, and proper care for the people and property surrounding them. Students gain academic knowledge while simultaneously building a sense of real community together.

Students who have experienced a Montessori education are able to read at an appropriate or often advanced grade level, write basic words/sentences, perform basic math operations, identify major geographical locations. and classify creatures and plants.  Children in Montessori classrooms work in both small groups and individually, to discover and explore knowledge of the world and to develop their maximum potential.
