MONTESSORI

The Montessori level has been in existence since 1979. Montessori as a method of instruction was chosen for our three, four, and five-year-old students because it was sensitive to the developmental variations from young child to another. Children in the Montessori environment choose work based on levels of readiness for particular learning. The directress in this environment observes the child’s development and maximizes on these readiness periods. Children leaving the Montessori environment are usually already reading three and four letter words, counting to 100, and are well prepared for first grade. Parent involvement in the Montessori environment is strongly encouraged.
Dr. Maria Montessori (1870 - 1952) was a Catholic pioneer in the area of early childhood education. Her methods have met with unprecedented success and were highly praised by several Popes. Her ideas of the "three period lesson", "practical life exercises" and "sensitive periods" are key to this approach. Her philosophies about how children learn and "the prepared environment" are at the heart of the MSMCS Montessori classrooms.
Montessori Options ~ Because MSMCS parents are very discerning about the number of days their 3 and 4-year-olds are ready to attend school we provide the following options with tuition adjustments. The 5-year-old program in the Montessori is a full day, 5 days per week only program. These are new options available to our 3 and 4-year-olds which are intended to help us better serve our families.

  • 3-year-olds: 3, 4, or 5 days per week either half day (8:00-11:30 am) or full day (8:00 am-3:15 pm)
  • 4-year-olds: 4 days or 5 days per week either half day (8:00—11:30 am) or full day (8:00 am-3:15 pm

For half day dismissal at 11:30 am, children will be supervised an additional 15 minutes until 11:45 am to give a short “cushion” of time for our families; however, families with children remaining after that time will be charged $5 per child for each 10 minutes afterwards.
For full day dismissal at 3:15 pm, children will be supervised an additional 15 minutes until 3:30 pm to give a short “cushion” of time for our families; however, families with children remaining after that time will be placed in the Extended Day Program.
