Mount St. Michael Catholic School enters its twenty-fifth year with the 2010-2011 school year. The school first opened as the Montessori School of God's Delight for ages two through six in 1978 in the basement of Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Oak Llawn. Sister Monica Marie Hibberd, O.S.U. served as director. In September 1981, through the generosity of the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity and Refuge, the Montessori School moved to the campus of Mount St. Michael with the encouragement Sister Mary Anne Tasker, O.L.C. and under the direction of Mr. Joshua Thompson. On May 11, 1995, Mount St. Michael Catholic School became a private school under the Catholic Diocese of Dallas along with Cistercian, Jesuit, and Ursuline at the request of Bishop Charles V. Grahmann, D.D. In May 1996, the school received Provisional Accreditation from the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops Education Department (TCCED). In 1999, the school was awarded full accreditation through TCCED. The 2000-2001 school year began the transformation from a traditional curriculum to a Classical Curriculum. This curriculum in a faith-filled environment prepares students to think critically, problem solve creatively, choose ethically, and serve faithfully. Since the inception of Mount St. Michael Catholic School two other schools with the name “Prince of Peace” began. In conjunction with our twentieth anniversary on September 2, 2006, in an effort to alleviate confusion, and in an effort to make it easier for families to learn of our enriching educational opportunities, the leadership made the decision to change the name of the school. Through a discernment process and approval by Bishop Charles Grahmann, the school’s name was changed to Mount St. Michael Catholic School as of July 1, 2007. In the spring of 2009 the school participated in its dicennial re-accreditation. The TCCED gave MSMCS outstanding ratings for its work as a Catholic educational entity. |
