Faith Formation
Faith formation at Mount St. Michael Catholic School is not only about developing the intellectual knowledge of our Catholic faith but also developing the heart or relational aspects of our faith.
Prayer is integrated throughout our life as a school community from the beginning of classes to “The Angelus” at noon to the closing of the day before dismissal.
Students in 1st-8th grades celebrate and serve at Mass dailywith the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity who own the Mount Saint Michael campus. Fr. Stephen Sanchez, OCD, the superior at Mt. Carmel Center, or Fr. Jerome Earley, OCD, also of Mt. Carmel Center, preside at each Mass . Many parents join us for this blessed time. The Montessori (ages 3-5) participate twice weekly.
Pre-K through 6th grades experience religious enrichment weekly in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a Montessori style faith instruction that leads the child into the heart of God through the work of the Holy Spirit. As children work with the materials, they learn to contemplate and meditate on the truths of our faith and the Scriptures.
Religious studies in 1st-8th grades are strengthened through the doctrinally sound Faith and Life Series and Montessori through the Image of God Series both published by Ignatius Press.
Monthly children receive the sacrament of Reconciliation and participate in First Friday Eucharistic Adoration in our Sacred Heart of Jesus Chapel. It is a great privilege to have our Lord present in the Holy Eucharist in the Tabernacle at the heart of our school. Parents, students, and faculty may take time before the Lord at any time.
Many opportunities for Christian service avail themselves throughout each year.
The “Holy” Spirit Rally closes out Catholic Schools Week at the end of January/beginning of February. During this fun time, classes yell cheers for God as well as “lip sync” or sing popular songs of faith. Veggie Tales songs are quite popular.
Faith formation is at the heart of Mount St. Michael Catholic School.
Some families ask: While our devout Christian beliefs are parallel to those of the Catholic faith and we seek a strong faith based education such as Mount St. Michael Catholic School offers, we do not worship in the Catholic church. With this said, can a non-Catholic Christian fit in and thrive within your academic and spiritual environment?
The answer to this question is an emphatic, “Yes!” We have had several families of different denominations send their children to Mount St. Michael Catholic School. They have shared how attending Mount St. Michael Catholic School has enriched the faith life of not only their children but also their family. Mount St. Michael Catholic School is a Catholic school that welcomes families truly seeking after the Heart of Christ regardless of denomination.
